Abstract

Synopsis A hitherto undocumented benthonic shelly fauna from within the graptolitic mudstones of Laggan Burn is largely confined to the brachiopod Onniella williamsi sp. nov. and the trilobite Diacanthaspis ( D. ) trippi sp. nov. The fauna is of early Caradoc age and is considered to represent a rare occurrence of an indigenous deep water shelly biofacies within the outer shelf or slope environment of the middle Ordovician of the Girvan district.
