Abstract

The SERM (Structured Entity Relationship Diagram) data model is an extension of the classic ER (Entity Relationship) model. Its transparent, hierarchical structure allows you to control and analyze the order in which information resources are entered into the database. Assuming attention to referential integrity, it has a significant impact on the verification of relationship complexity. Uncertainty in the identification of obligatory relations, confirmed by numerous corrections, demonstrates the need to develop an approach to support this task. The aim of this article is to present a solution in the form of a framework based on the SERM model. Its main aspects are optimization of the identification of obligatory relations and automatic handling of their protections. The proposed solution supports intelligent design of relational databases beyond conceptual design. It extends the scope to the design of database programming objects, such as procedures that generate triggers to handle obligatory relationships. This is an important aspect for securing database integrity.
