Abstract

Eight [2+2] Schiff base macrocyclic dinuclear ZnII complexes, bearing extended dialdehydes (Cl‐dialdehyde and Me‐dialdehyde) with the same cyclohexyl pendant arm but different rigid 1,2‐diamine and flexible 1,8‐diamine components [diaminomaleonitrile, 1,2‐diaminobenzene, and 1,2‐bis(2‐aminoethoxy)ethane] have been successfully constructed with use of the zinc ion template in the presence of different counterions. The use of different electron‐withdrawing and electron‐donating substituents (Cl, CH3) in 1a and 1b, respectively, leads to distinguishable spectral behavior of the corresponding Schiff base macrocyclic dinuclear ZnII complexes. The auxiliary‐coordinated or ‐uncoordinated halide counterions (Cl, Br, I) in 2 and 3 result in varying structural characteristics.
