Abstract
Endoscopic esophageal variceal ligation (EVL) was first introduced by Stiegmann and colleagues1 in 1986,and it has since grown to become an extremely popular modality throughout the world as well as in Japan. The reason for its popularity is primarily the fact that the procedure is minimally operator-dependent and is also associated with fewer local and systemic complications than injection sclerotherapy.2-4
