Abstract

Aiming towards energy efficient operation of unbalance distribution networks (UDNs), this article elucidates a three phase optimal power flow model by merging offline load shifting (LS) and conservation voltage reduction (CVR). Initially the problem is developed as a mixed integer non-convex programming (MINCP) considering the non-linear behavior of the UDN and phase mutual coupling. However, to overcome the complexity regarding MINCP solution process, later a sequential mixed integer linear programming (MILP) solution process is proposed after replacing the non-linear expressions with their linear counterparts. Demonstrating on modified IEEE 123 bus UDN, it is shown that the proposed technique can provide most energy efficient operation while satisfying individual constraints of LS and CVR. Further, the linear approximations are validated by simulating the concerned IEEE 123 bus network in OpenDSS for maximum and minimum loading conditions.
