Abstract

A novel small effective microstrip-fed monopole antenna, it comprises a semicircular design with ovoid-shaped patch and an effective abbreviated base ground plane, is simulated for UWB applications. The design of the antenna has compact structure with size of 16 × 18 mm2. The area of the microstrip antenna with the proposed structure is reduced up to 57 % compared to the conventional monopole antenna. In order to increase the bandwidth of the antenna some slots have been made inside the patch. The proposed antenna design is intended to work within the frequency, which covers from 3.1 to 11 GHz with less than −10 dB return loss. The insertion of a couple of indents on ground plane excites the additional resonances and the bandwidth is increased up to 104 %. Furthermore, in the UWB, good return loss and the high standard radiation patterns are achieved.
