Abstract

A semianalytical method is presented in this paper for static analysis of shallow shells. The cubic, quintic B spline function and series are used as the trial functions of displacement which satisfy the boundary conditions to obtain the approximate solution of shallow shells. A unified computational scheme suited for various types of boundary conditions is formulated. In comparison with the conventional finite element method, the present method is of higher accuracy, has fewer unknowns and is easier to programme. Several numerical results are given and compared with other methods. It is clearly shown that the present method is more accurate and more effective.
