Abstract

Summary. An apparatus is described by which osmotic pressure can be measured on 0.1 (O.05) ml of solution. The accuracy is satisfactory, the greatest deviation from the mean value being ± 0.3 (± 0.6) cm of water. Corrections can be made for possible changes of the protein concentration in the inner solution since dilution or concentration of the latter can be read off directly. Possible systematic errors have been excluded by comparative measurements with the macro‐method. The method gives 39 590 as the molecular weight of β‐lactoglobulin. The writer wishes to express his gratitude to Professor K. LINDERSTRBM‐LANG and Mr. A. V. GUNTELBERG for kind advice during this investigation. I am indebted to Nordisk Insulin Fond for financial support of this work.
