Abstract

To improve the methods for determining the size of the liver, a computer program has been developed, which on basis of ultrasonic scanning pictures of the liver, calculates its volume. The contour of the liver on the ultrasonic scanning pictures is digitized by means of a semi-automatic co-ordinatometer (D-Mac pencil follower), which is connected to the computer (IBM 1800) and works on-line-with it. The program shows directly the calculated liver volume on a datascreen, connected to the analog output of the computer.
