Abstract

In this work we check the reability of an air pollution model to simulate within the planetary boundary layer (PBL) the concentration of radioactive material emitted from the nuclear power plant of Angra dos Reis. We used a dispersion model that employs a new analytical solution of the advection–diffusion equation. This solution for non-stationary and non-homogeneous conditions and radioactive contaminant is obtained by applying the Laplace transform, considering the PBL subdivided in N multilayers where the meteorological parameters can be considered constant. Given that the simulations are in a complex terrain, the analysis of the results shows a reasonably good agreement between the values computed by the model against the experimental ones.
