Abstract

The projected increase in the number of dementia cases has prompted the development of an automated solution to assist patients with self-management in everyday life. This paper proposes a new mobile application (app) called DDoMate to help users with Mild Cognitive (MC) impairment or mild dementia, and their caregivers, organise tasks to improve the patient's quality of life. DDoMate has been developed using the latest in research design for medical mobile apps for elderly people to ensure a carefree experience without hassle. DDoMate offers easy to navigate interfaces with large fonts and a dynamic environment that enables users to record their own voices for reminders to manage tasks. DDoMate is implemented in the Android environment and is accessible through the Google App Store. Data within the proposed app is anonymous and can be further analysed using machine learning to improve the self-management characteristics of mild dementia patients.
