Abstract

Abstract The paper describes some of the development work on the Cambridge University version of the self-boring pressuremeter (the so-called “Camkometer”), which has been carried out at the University of Western Australia over a number of years. This work included improvement of the pore-pressure measuring system and development of a deairing system for the pore-pressure transducers, new supply-voltage regulation and signal amplification systems placed down-hole in the instrument itself, test control and data logging using a microcomputer, and a new membrane-protection system. Details of the improved instrumentation are provided. Some test results are included to show that the output from the pore-pressure transducers provides an indication of the “quality” of drilling, especially in clay.
