Abstract

Results of a seismostratigraphic analysis of the northern part of the West Siberian Basin are presented. A three-dimensional sedimentological and stratigraphic model has been constructed. The model describes the accumulation of Lower Cretaceous clinoforms. Lower Cretaceous clinoforms in the Gydan area are separate from the clinoform groups to the south. The stratigraphic relationship between this clinoform group and those of more southern areas are discussed. Northern areas of the West Siberian Basin were sediment starved from the Late Jurassic till the Barremian and during this time a condensed section was deposited (Bazhenov Shales). These are overlain by prograding terrigenous deposits in clinoform facies and of Barremian age.
