Abstract

Identifying an important need, The American Travel Health Nurses Association (ATHNA), working on behalf of U.S. nurses, set out to develop a scope of practice and performance standards for travel health nursing1. Based on these efforts, the American Nurses Association (ANA) voted to recognize travel health nursing as a distinct specialty. We discuss the process that led to this achievement and its implications for travel health providers and practice.
