Abstract

Introduction—Clearwater River is situated in north central Idaho and crosses the State from east to west. This major stream is unique in that it and all its tributaries rise and flow entirely in one state. The Clearwater's well‐developed dendritic pattern is bounded on the north by the watershed of St. Joe River and on the south by the Salmon and its tributaries. Lewiston, Idaho, marks the point of confluence of Clearwater and Snake rivers. The Lewiston generating‐station dam on Clearwater River is situated 2 miles from the River's mouth, near the eastern limits of the City of Lewiston. The total ponded area extends upstream for 3‐1/2 miles. The area covered by that portion of the log‐pond with which this paper deals extends 3000 feet upstream and covers 68 acres.
