Abstract

Abstract Catabacter hongkongensis is a rare bacterium that was first described in 2007. Since that time, there have been less than 20 case reports worldwide. This bacterium inhabits the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore, most cases present with gastrointestinal pathology, including bowel obstruction, acute cholecystitis, and colonic perforation. The treatment is typically surgical intervention and antibiotics. Here, we present a case of C. hongkongensis in a patient undergoing treatment for breast cancer who presented with acute appendicitis.
