Abstract

The second-quantization formalism of Villars is applied to nucleon-nucleus inelastic scattering. Both the direct and knock-out terms are found to require renormalized effective interactions. Each term is characterized by its own state-dependent coupling constant. Explicit formulae are presented to indicate how these core polarization terms may be included in a “conventional” anti-symmetrized distorted-wave calculation.
