Abstract

One of the first tasks faced by the professional evaluator agreeing to work with a group of educators is to provide some orientation or review of the current evaluation thinking. Unfortunately, there are not enough evaluators trained in the current concepts to carry the message on a one-to-one basis to every educator trying to find some utility in the new literature. The intent of this article is to supply a brief overview of some of the major thinking in evaluation. It points to what is directly usable for the development of evaluation plans or designs in social action, university, and school-based programs and projects.
