Abstract

Abstract A differential magnetometer network has been operating in the Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand, near the active volcanoes Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe, from 1973 to the present day to monitor local magnetic field changes that might be associated with volcanic activity. Although several large eruptions of Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe have occurred while the network has been operating, no magnetic field changes related to volcanic activity have been detected above the background noise.
