Cowan, J. J. ; Branch, D. Abstract A VLA search for the 20 cm radio emission of six historical supernovae in NGC 5253 and 5236 has detected none of them. At an assumed distance of 4 Mpc, the 3-sigma upper limits of about 0.9 mJy require a 20 cm monochromatic absolute luminosity for these 9-86 years old supernovae which is less than that of Cas A. Extrapolation of the 21 cm log N-log S relation indicates that two point sources detected in the NGC 5236 field are probably not background sources, and although both sources lie along the inner edge of the northern spiral arm, neither coincides with H II regions in NGC 5236. It is suggested that these point sources may be supernova remnants emitting at 20 cm at approximately the Cas A level.
