Abstract

The reactions 7Li(d, α)5He and 6Li(3He, α)5Li have been studied at 24 MeV and 25.5 MeV respectively in a search for highly excited levels in the A = 5 nuclei. In addition to ground state groups and well-known excited states in the vicinity of 16.6 MeV excitation, evidence has been obtained from the 7Li(d, α)5He reaction for broad energy levels at approximately 20.2 and 23.8 MeV excitation and from the 6Li(5He, α)5Li reaction for broad levels at approximately 19.8 and 22.7 MeV excitation. Excitation functions for the reactions3He(d, d)3He and 3He(d, α)1 H have been obtained at several angles for deuteron energies between 9.4 and 17.8 MeV. There is no clear evidence of resonances corresponding to states in 5Li.
