Abstract
In today's ever changing world of new technology, users of mechanical seals are asking, “What is Advanced Sealing Technology?” Although a single definition is lacking, the concept can be realized by studying the development of a new seal. This article will discuss a six step approach to seal design and the design tools used in the development of advanced sealing products. In addition, a technical review of a new generation of metal bellows cartridge seals, developed utilizing this approach, will be illustrated. Finally, the original design concepts will be compared to the final product.
