Abstract

Software defined radio (SDR) is gaining much attention in many application fields, e.g. satellite communication (SATCOM). In this paper, the requirements of SDR architecture for SATCOM application are discussed and a novel network on chip (NoC) architecture proposal are presented in order to achieve these requirements. Compared with several common NoC architectures, the proposed NoC can reduce the number of buffers used in the network and standardize the latency between two network entries. As a result, the communication cost and contention caused by the random placement of IP blocks of SDR system will be minimized. With the use of open core protocol (OCP) interface between NoC and IPs, the reusability requirement of SDR system is achieved. The communication between two IPs of VDB SDR application is realized through OCP interface and the proposed NoC.
