Abstract

A test preparation for the estimation of urea in plasma has been evaluated, which involves placing the test strip in 0.2 ml of plasma and—after allowing a urease reaction to proceed for 30 min at room temperature—comparing the height of an indicator column with those on a calibration chart. The accuracy, precision, conditions of use and stability of the preparation have been tested. The method is recommended as an adjunct to the automated procedure used in central laboratories and, more generally, as an emergency procedure.
