Abstract

Childhood obesity is widespread in all industrialized European countries and it contributes significantly to population morbidity and mortality.Moreover, obesity is a chronic disease with a multifactorial etiology including genetics, environment, metabolism, lifestyle and behavioral components. This article addresses the school nursing approach thought: education of children and their families, participation in policy-making process to improve nutrition and activities for children. The future policies surrounding pediatric obesity must include continued focus on prevention and treatment. Forming broad partnerships that include the government, communities, professional organizations, industries, schools, preschools, day care, and family will improve the likelihood for successful implementation.
