Abstract

A scattering chamber designed to be used with large area, lithium-compensated silicon radiation detectors has been constructed. The chamber has provision for cooling a circular array of detectors to 77°K to achieve shorter charge collection time and better energy resolution than could be obtained with room temperature operation. The apparatus was designed to be used with the NBS 180-MeV synchrotron in photoproton experiments in the 2–35 MeV proton energy interval.
