Abstract
A Scanning Auger Microprobe (SAM) was used to investigate the chemical structure of oxides formed on Zr 2Ni and ZrNi. The information was used to explain the catastrophic oxidation behaviour of a Zr 2Ni alloy containing small ZrNi precipitates and, in general, indicated the important role that second-phase particles occupy in phenomena such as corrosion.
