Abstract

We have constructed a new sample of 86 large angular size radio galaxies selected from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS; Condon et al., 1998, AJ 115, 1693). With this sample we pursue the following aims: (i) to select a number of radio galaxies oriented close to the plane of the sky in order to study the parsec scale properties of radio jets not severely affected by Doppler boosting; (ii) to study properties of giant radio galaxies (i.e. with a projected linear size ≥ 1 Mpc), and (iii) to investigate radio source evolution by selecting a number of old radio sources (invoking a plausible size-age correlation).
