Abstract

This article describes a strategic arms limitation talks simulation conducted in two freshmen-level introductory political science classes at a medium-size state university. The values derived from the simulation, as seen by students, are briefly described as well as are the timetable and procedures utilized to conduct the simulation. The article concludes by suggesting that in introductory political science classes, SALT simulations are very appropriate in providing students with the experience of searching for understanding, struggling with others to present points of view, negotiating with others to seek acceptable compromises, all in a setting which deals with substantive political matters having direct bearing on their lives.
