Abstract

The manufacturing sector throughout the world has been witnessing intense competition and turbulent environment in recent times. Manufacturing organisations are trying to enhance their flexibility to respond to this volatile environment. Strategic flexibility is difficult to define, mainly owing to the multidimensionality and vagueness in definitions. Nowadays, new methods like multi–criteria decision–making (MCDM) models like analytical hierarchy process (AHP), piecewise–affine (PWA), a fuzzy–based (FB) model, etc., have been extensively used in strategic management literature. In this paper, a fuzzy logic, knowledge–based framework is presented for the assessment of strategic flexibility in Indian manufacturing organisations.
