Abstract
Addition of thyroxine or triiodothyronine to cultures of mammary gland explants in the presence of insulin, hydrocortisone and prolactin, results in a selective enhancement of the activity of the milk protein, α-lactalbumin. This effect, which is specific for the L-isomer of the thyroid hormones, is not mediated through diffusible activators of the enzyme activity.
