Abstract

Endowing electrospun fiber with excellent mechanical properties is of great importance but still has difficulties, especially without sacrificing other performances. Herein, bio-inspired by the silk, we fabricated double core-sheath bi-phasic fibers, investigated the mechanical properties, surface wettability and cytocompatibility. The results show that the as-prepared double core-sheath bi-phasic fibers gain improved strength attributed to a unique sandwich-type structure while keeping hydrophobicity and cytocompatibility almost unchanged. This strategy holds enormous potential for a variety of applications, such as host-guest material carrier and scaffold for tissue engineering.
