Abstract

A new internal-circulation gas-solid contactor has been developed to improve and simplify the operation and the structure of the existing circulating fluidized bed (CFB). The contactor consists of a column in which an ascending-flow-type inertial gas-solid separator is equipped to return the solids to the column. To keep gas-solid contact effective, the contactor is operated at a gas velocity above the terminal settling velocity of solid panicles (like the existing CFB). Characteristics of the separator and the rise in holdup in the contactor are described.
