Abstract

AbstractMobile telecommunication systems by satellite meet the requirement of antenna radiation pattern of wide beamwidth. The wide beamwidth of the circular microstrip disk antenna is obtained by high dielectric constant substrate. However, the dielectric losses and difficulty in manufacturing are problems for high dielectric constant materials.Wide beamwidth is obtained also using the antenna with an electrically small magnetic current loop.This paper presents the ring cavity antenna without dielectric materials. It also has electrically small magnetic current loop. Antenna characteristics calculated by the cavity model showed that the ring cavity antenna has wide beamwidth. Theoretical values are verified also by the measured radiation pattern and the input impedance.
