Abstract

A rigorous description of gas-solid fluidized beds is presented. Our analysis focuses on studies of transport mechanisms, strategies for determining the material parameters and prediction of the process. The analysis is based on a multiphase-multicomponent continuum approach, constitutive theory and the pattern for analysis summarized in the elements of design table (EDT) format. The EDT is composed of four parts: mezzo-scale governing equations; macro-scale governing equations; constitutive equations and material parameters and; correlations among process parameters. It has been established that the material parameters are dependent mainly on specific area, porosity, viscosity of gas, mass fractions of species, temperature and bubble properties. Direct measured internal profiles should be applied to determine constitutive equations and parameters, check the mechanisms and provide predictability.
