Abstract
In this paper, a novel single-feed dual-band circularly polarized half E-shaped microstrip patch antenna (HESMSA) array is proposed and experimentally studied. It consists of a 4 × 4 array realized on RT duroid substrate of height 3.2 mm. Each HESMSA element of the array is fed by a corporate feed network designed on RT duroid substrate of 0.8 mm thickness. The array antenna notifies a measured impedance bandwidth of 11.9% (6.4–7.2 GHz), impedance and axial ratio overlap bandwidth of 8.2% (6.65–7.2 GHz) and peak boresight gain of 17.84 dBic at the lower operating frequency of 6.7 GHz. It exhibits measured impedance bandwidth of 9.3% (7.7–8.45 GHz), impedance and axial ratio overlap bandwidth of 6.1% (7.7–8.19 GHz) and a peak boresight gain of 18.42 dBic at a higher operating frequency of 8 GHz. The results of the array antenna demonstrate the desired performance for C-band satellite communication applications.
