Abstract

Considering the limited number of prison guards, it is a challenging task for prison guards to monitor the large number of criminals in prison. Specifically, it is difficult to predict the activity localisations of the prisoners accurately and in real time. Therefore, it is important to adopt information technology to monitor the prisoners' activities. Radio frequency identification (RFID), featured with the capabilities of multi-target identification, real-time positioning and quick recognition, is a desirable tool for the monitor of prisoners. To this end, an active RFID technology-based prisoner localisation system is proposed in this paper. Firstly, this paper gives the localisation algorithm based on the active RFID. Then, in order to improve the localisation accuracy, the path loss exponent, which actually reflects the environmental loss exponent, is introduced to reduce the errors caused by surrounding environment factors, such as occlusion. Finally, experiments are carried out to validate the algorithm and the management system.
