Abstract

AbstractNew data are presented to establish the Q and e values of vinylidene chloride, acrylonitrile, and vinyl chloride relative to styrene as the reference monomer. Within the experimental error these values are shown to be entirely consistent with the observed copolymer compositions. Only the values for vinyl chloride are appreciably different from those published in the original paper of Alfrey and Price in 1947. With these better data it is hoped that renewed efforts will be made to place this empirical device on a sound theoretical basis.
