Abstract

This review manuscript highlights the tribological and mechanical characteristics of aluminium based metal-matrix composites (MMCs) reinforced with micro/nano-sized ceramic-particulates, across various operating parameters like normal load (N), sliding velocity (m/s), sliding distance (m), temperature (°C), reinforcement weight percentage, etc. Such advanced composites find frequent applications in automotives, military, marine, structural, etc. Hence components life has to be improved by enhancing their mechanical and tribological properties in a cost-effective manner in order to improve the overall efficiency of manufacturing sector. The literature review concluded that ceramic particulate reinforcement lead to significant enhancement of mechanical and tribological characteristics of Al alloy composites.
