Abstract

This paper offers a review of rolling technology of shape flat products. The demands for the shape flat products are increasing quickly in the market of structural material. Some of them are so new that up to now there are no the standard specification, clear concept, and even no widely agreed name. Then, several kinds of shape flat products by rolling are introduced, and the definition, classification, characteristics of cross section, and production and application of them are given. One of them is the rolled profile strip (RPS), of which the thickness is different in transverse direction. The differences among the RPS, roll forming products, and economical sections are analyzed. Taking RPS as an example, the three forming methods are introduced, which are channel spread method, band spread method, and multi-pass spread method. The RPS products are applied to the uneven load distribution of bearing as to reduce the structural weight or meet the needs of the space dimension, special loading requirement by construction design. An example is introduced to carry out the experiments of rolling RPS products with band spread method, taking Al as simulating material. The RPS samples with thickness ratio of 1:1.3 are obtained. The results prove that the band spread method is a reasonable way to produce the RPS products.
