Abstract

Private Finance Initiative (PFI) projects should integrate the principles of sustainability in every stage of development. However, the implementation of PFI project becomes issues in many countries as well as in Malaysia construction industry. The benefits of sustainability development especially in PFI projects have been over looked. Greening elements and PFI are not mutually exclusive. Thus, this study intends to determine the elements of sustainability that need to be integrate in PFI projects. The reviews from previous research conducted and study indicated that there are four main elements that need to be integrate are social, environmental, economy and technology aspects in the whole life of the construction development. Social aspect with relates to care of end users; economy with relates to whole life costing and capital cost; environmental aspect relates to energy consumption during operation and finally technical aspects with relates to frequent use of technology are among the trigger findings of the previous scholar research. The sustainability criteria’s in PFI project involves in various process ranging from the tendering, design, and construction to the operational stage of the project. This research gives a significant impact for those who are involved in PFI project to ensure our future development are well safe as sustainable development is aligns with nation’s Economic Transformation Program.
