Abstract

Purpose - The aim of this study was to review the concept of innovative work behavior and its theoretical and practical implications for organizational setting. Design/Methodology/Approach - A systematic review of 551 pieces of research papers were used to review the denfinitions, measurements, attributes, antecedentsand consequences of innovative work behavior in the literature. Electronic searches were conducted in the Korea Citation Index using “innovative behavior”, “innovative work behavior”, “innovation at an individual level” as keywords. Findings - The review revealed Innovation behavior is a concept that has clear characteristics that distinguish it from innovation or creativity. Antecedents to innovative work behavior are categorized into four groups: individual characteristics, job characteristics, group characteristics and work environmental characteristicsand Consequences of innovative behavior included productivity, organizational effectiveness, service quality, innovation performance, organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Research Implications - It can be expected that this study will lay the foundation for an empirical analysis of the concepts and measurement of IWB and for the future research for the theory development of IWB.
