Abstract

The growing demand of vehicles and exponential increase in the consumption of fossil fuel for transportation is putting a massive burden on the environment by increasing pollution levels by the emission of various harmful gases. This problem has given birth to an opportunity to work in the field of alternative option to fossil fuel based vehicles. This paper presents a complete model of a Hybrid Electric vehicle(HEV) which incorporates the best features of both Internal Combustion based engine and Electric Vehicle. This work presents a MATLAB/Simulink based model of hybrid electric vehicle with a controlling algorithm to control the operation of electric motor, generator and internal combustion engine(ICE). With the help of simulation results, the proposed work is verified it was observed that this method has a significant effect on reducing the Internal Combustion engine dependency of Hybrid Electric Vehicle. The proposed method aims to provide a lesser use of Internal Combustion engine without reducing the performance for a Hybrid Electric Vehicle.
