Abstract

Erosion is the process of material removal from the surface of one material known as substrate, target or base material under the action of another material of comparatively higher strength. The acts of fly ash slurry transportation produce unburnt carbons and oxides during combustion which then strike the substrate material causing erosion wear of the material. Erosion or adhesive wear can be reducing by controlling the interaction of abrasive particle with target surface. Slurry suspended particle in flow fluid causes erosion wear in hydraulic machinery likes pumps, pipes, pipe fitting, ducts, nozzles and turbine in mineral transportation or ash disposal system. Erosion wear of a material takes place under various impact parameters and is considered as one of the major failures of pipeline and pump impeller materials. The process of erosion wear has become a serious problem faced by thermal power plants, refineries, mining and turbine industries.Different types of erosion wear are discuses below.
