Abstract

Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma flow control is suited to the low velocity condition. It has a simple structure without mechanical parts, and has thus attracted much attention in research and industry institutions all over the world. DBD plasma flow control has been researched by many scholars in the recent 20 years, and there were a wealth of significant results on both plasma aerodynamic actuation mechanism and applications. In this paper, the physical process of dielectric barrier discharge and the essential mechanism of plasma aerodynamic actuation have been analyzed. Then the DBD plasma flow control, both the aerodynamic actuation mechanism and its applications in recent years, have been reviewed, and the plasma aerodynamic actuation mechanism was generalized in 3 main items. And the paper ends with a discussion about future development of the DBD plasma flow control.
