Abstract

Recently, ceramic materials have been widely used in the surface reinforcement of key components of metal materials, due to the characteristics of high hardness, high melting point, and high corrosion resistance. Laser cladding, as an efficient surface reinforcement technology, has important applications in the preparation of ceramic coatings. Advances in the preparation of ceramic coatings by laser cladding are reviewed in this paper. Firstly, the material systems of preparing ceramic coatings are summarized, and the effect factors of laser cladding produced ceramic coatings quality are analyzed. Also, we explore in detail the microstructure features, mechanical properties, wear resistance, and corrosion behavior. Furthermore, the review paper focuses on applications of ceramic coatings. Finally, challenges and opportunities of using laser cladding to prepare ceramic coatings are listed, and the future development direction of this field is prospected. Consequently, the results expected from the paper are considered a guideline that enables the interested in this field to to quickly understand it and make informed decisions for solving practical production.
