Wound dressing is one of the main external effectors during the healing process of wounds The following characteristics are required for ideal modern and smart wound dressings bioadhesiveness to the wound surface ease of applications easily sterilised inhibition of bacterial invasion biodegradability oxygen permeability non toxic etc There is a growing concern about the usage of smart materials as wound dressings These are natural polymers such as polysaccharides and derivatives e g carboxymethlycellulose alginates chitosan and heparin proteoglycans and proteins e g collagen gelatine fibrin and keratin and what is more the impact of such materials on the wound healing process is still under investigation by scientists and experts in general Development of wound dressing materials is main objectives of this paper which will provide general information on future wound dressing materials nbsp
