Abstract

Abstract: The Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is the most fundamental power system technology that is utilized to protect, monitor, and control power networks. It not only allows real-time, synchronized voltage measurements on the buses but also the current phasor of lines connected to the buses where these PMUs are placed. The positioning of PMUs at each bus node is unnecessary and is restricted by the installation's high cost and complexity. As a result, the fundamental goal of Optimal PMU placement (OPP) is reducing the total no. of PMUs along with maximum observability, while simultaneously considering measurement redundancy. There are several methods for fixing this problem, and they fall into two categories: Metaheuristic methods and mathematical approaches.
