Abstract

Discrete global grid systems (DGGSs) have been widely used in digital earth to simulation and manager massive geo-data. To sustainably develop and keep interoperability through the usage of DGGS, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) make a series of standards to build common and standardized DGGSs. And the researchers develop and adjust various DGGSs under the standardization of OGC. This paper summary the core features of the OGC DGGS abstract specification and introduce several classical implementations of those standard DGGSs. The application cases are also included in this paper. Finally based the aforementioned introduction of DGGSs, the future opportunities and challenges of DGGSs are proposed and discussed.
