Abstract

This chapter reviews the research and practice of eGovernment in China. eGovernment refers to the use of digital information and communication technology in public administration, and it has had a profound impact on the way the Chinese public administration functions. Hence, it is an essential part of any understanding of the Chinese state. First, this chapter reviews the literature on eGovernment in China and identifies the main research topics and the development of the field. The chapter, subsequently, analyzes official documentary material and yearbooks to introduce the main policies and practices of eGovernment in China. Finally, the chapter outlines new directions in research and practice.
